Hello eMule 2026!
It has been 24 years since eMule was born. In 2002, a developer known as Merkur reverse-engineered the proprietary eDonkey2000 client and built a free, open-source alternative.
The ED2K and Kademlia networks are still alive. But eMule — the original client — is still Windows-only, still built on MFC, still frozen in time.
eMule Qt
eMule Qt is a full port of eMule to Qt 6 and C++23 — running natively on Windows, macOS, and Linux for the first time. Same ED2K servers, same Kademlia network, fully compatible with every existing eMule client.
Beyond cross-platform, eMule Qt will bring features the community has been asking for:
- Daemon / GUI Split — run the core headless on a server or NAS, connect the GUI remotely
- REST API & Web Server — control everything from a browser
- IPv6 Support (upcoming) — native dual-stack and IPv6-only connections, so users behind carrier-grade NAT or IPv6-only ISPs can finally participate fully
- NAT Traversal (upcoming) — UDP hole punching and relay-assisted connections, no more Low ID without manual port forwarding
Enabled by AI
This project was made by long-time fans of eMule who wanted to see it live on as a modern, cross-platform application.
This port was made possible by AI coding tools. Translating hundreds of thousands of lines of MFC/Win32 code to Qt 6 and modern C++23, rewriting the networking stack, building the IPC layer, creating a test suite — AI was the force multiplier that made it achievable.
Early Beta — Use with Caution
eMule Qt is early beta. It connects, searches, downloads, and uploads — but it has not been battle-tested like the original. There will be bugs. Report bugs — every report helps.
eMule Qt is free and open source. No ads, no spyware. Just eMule — for every platform.
