# Cross-Platform

## One codebase. Every desktop.

The original eMule was written against **Microsoft Foundation Classes**, which tied it to Windows for its entire life. eMule Qt replaces MFC with **Qt 6**, so the same code builds and runs natively everywhere — no Wine, no virtual machine, no compatibility layer.

- **Windows** (x64)
- **macOS** — Intel and Apple Silicon
- **Linux** — x64 and ARM

### A modern foundation, not a translation

The port was not a mechanical rewrite. The codebase is **C++23** throughout, with smart pointers and RAII for memory safety, move semantics for efficient data handling, and strict compiler warnings on hardened build flags. Configuration lives in human-readable **YAML** instead of the registry or binary `.ini` files, with secrets stored encrypted, so your settings are easy to back up, edit and version-control. A cross-platform crash handler catches failures on all three systems, and more than **150 automated test executables** guard the protocol logic against regressions.

eMule Qt ships in **9 languages**, and new translations can be added with the standard Qt Linguist toolchain.

### Why it matters

Your client, your files and your habits stop being tied to one operating system. Move between a Windows desktop, a Mac laptop and a Linux box and you are running the same client, speaking to the same ED2K servers and the same Kademlia network, with the same configuration format underneath.
