## What makes eMule Qt different

eMule Qt is not a reskin. The client was rebuilt from the ground up on **Qt 6** and **modern C++23**, and that rebuild made room for capabilities the original could never have — while staying fully compatible with the same ED2K servers and the same Kademlia network you already use.

It has since grown a second network of its own: eMule Qt downloads from **Usenet** too, with the NNTP engine running in the daemon beside the ED2K one.

Everything listed below exists in eMule Qt and *not* in the original eMule.

| Feature | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| [**Cross-Platform**](https://emule-qt.org/features/cross-platform/) | One codebase running natively on Windows, macOS and Linux. The original is MFC and Windows-only. |
| [**Daemon + GUI Split**](https://emule-qt.org/features/daemon-gui-split/) | A headless core you can run on a server or NAS, with the GUI attaching locally or over the network. |
| [**IPv6 Everywhere**](https://emule-qt.org/features/ipv6/) | Dual-stack ED2K, so IPv6-only and CGNAT users can take part as full peers instead of second-class ones. |
| [**Encrypted HTTP Cache**](https://emule-qt.org/features/http-cache/) | When several peers want the same part, spend your upstream once and hand the rest an encrypted URL. |
| [**Automatic Port Mapping**](https://emule-qt.org/features/port-mapping/) | Three port-forwarding protocols raced at startup, graded on whether your exact port was really granted. |
| [**REST API, MCP & CLI**](https://emule-qt.org/features/rest-api-cli/) | A JSON API, shell commands and a Model Context Protocol endpoint, so scripts, dashboards, home automation and AI assistants can all drive the client — the MCP side with a read-only switch. |
| [**Nothing Is Lost on Restart**](https://emule-qt.org/features/persistence/) | Download sources, upload-queue positions and statistics history all survive a restart. |
| [**Usenet**](https://emule-qt.org/features/usenet/) | A second download engine in the same client: NZB downloads across several providers, indexer search, and feeds that queue new releases on their own. |
| [**Hardened Kademlia**](https://emule-qt.org/features/hardened-kademlia/) | Node reputation, one node per IP and adaptive timeouts, so fake nodes and lying peers cannot poison your routing table or your public IP. |
| [**Country Flags**](https://emule-qt.org/features/country-flags/) | A flag beside every client, source, server, Kad contact, friend and news server, from a GeoLite2 database that ships with each release and keeps itself current. |
| [**Fake-File Detector**](https://emule-qt.org/features/fake-file-detector/) | A Confidence column that scores how likely a file is not what its name says, and tells you why. It warns; it never hides or blocks. |
| [**Migrating from eMule**](https://emule-qt.org/features/migrating-from-emule/) | Credits, shared files, unfinished downloads and settings carry over from the original eMule; the Windows installer imports them for you. |
| [**Transfers Window**](https://emule-qt.org/features/transfers-window/) | The download list and the four client lists, with every colour of the progress bars explained. Adds a Country and a Confidence column, and an optional MorphXT-style view of unfinished parts. |

All of it is free and open source under the GPL. The code, the protocol specifications and the issue tracker live on [GitHub](https://github.com/ModderMule/emule-qt) — and if something is broken, please [send us a report](https://emule-qt.org/submit-bug-report/).
